The fourth edition of the Honda CR-V remains true: it is again a mix of SUV, van and station wagon - a perfect crossover. The rear compartment is now little more spacious. The trunk compartment has grown by 56 liters compared to its predecessor.
The flexibility of the cargo compartment is solved in a particularly clever way. Honda speaks of a “one-action-seat-arrange”. In fact, one only needs to pull a strap in passenger cabin or to use a hatch in the trunk – and the bench seat folds together automatically: The seat cushion moves forward and establishes itself. The headrests fold, and the arm swings elegantly forward. This leaves a flat cargo area.
The 2.4-liter gasoline engine with four-wheel drive develops 185 hp. The five-speed automatic transmission works like a CVT transmission on the first gear and diminishes the dynamics of the car considerably.
A new small diesel engine is going to be offered as an alternative, the one at Honda’s particularly proud of. The 1.6-liter four-cylinder is “the lightest diesel in its class worldwide,” said Honda Managing Officer Yoshiharu Yamamoto. The small diesel engine is also exceptionally economical and provides 300 Nm of torque at 120 hp. He is expected to be about ten percent more output of the class competition.
Top values are not only showed in the performance, but also in fuel consumption, which is expected to be five percent below that of competitors. The new CR-V would probably 200 kg lighter -depending on equipment- than its predecessor. ”This is exactly the approach that we need. Environmental friendly and fun to drive,” says Honda CEO Ito.
