2012 Mercedes SLK 55 AMG

The new Mercedes SLK 55 AMG still using normal aspirated 5.5 liters engine, but the engine can shut down four of eight cylinders. When the tin roof of the Mercedes SLK 55 AMG closes and the driver chooses the eco modus “C”, the cylinders two, three, five and eight – and gradually within 30 milliseconds shut down. This helps in combination with the excellent start-stop system to reduce gasoline consumption, according to factory specification on average 8.4 liters per 100 kilometers. The engine produces 422 horsepower and 540 Newton meter, helps the 55 AMG reach 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The re-programmed seven-speed automatic transmission really does its job well.

The Drive modus can be selected between “C” (Controlled efficiency), “S” (Sport) or “M” (Manual), to give the driver freedom to choose environmental friendly driving or a chance to enjoy the sound of V8 and push out the adrenalin. Even the three-stage ESP can be adapted in this regard. The ESP ® key in the center console allows the driver to choose between “ESP ON”, “SPORT Handling Mode” and “ESP OFF”. However in the latter setting, should only be used by experienced hands, because the V8 power will be unrestrained on the rear wheels.

To help to control the beast, 360 mm front and 330 mm rear Disc brake applied. If that’s not enough, AMG handling package can be ordered. It contains a firmer suspension and a rear locking differential even further enhanced discs on the front axle. The buyers can also order the “SLK 55 AMG Edition 1″ to get an AMG model with available three custom paints, matt black painted Aluminum and two-tone leather interior.

The interior space and comfort are excellent for a sporty two-seater. The seats themselves are accommodating and a good balance between bolstered easy-to-access and the drink holders actually hold drinks. There’s not a lot of extra space, nor is there much room in the trunk with the folding top down and you can’t put it down without first aligning the trunk dividing partition properly but there’s enough space for a weekend retreat for two.
